A little more about Shi Shi Beach

A wild Olympic Peninsula beach reached by a forest trail, with sea stacks, driftwood and broad Pacific views. Check tribal access requirements and tide tables before setting out.

What to expect

Shi Shi Beach is a wild, remote beach on the north-west tip of Washington State, part of Olympic National Park. Sea stacks, tide pools and driftwood line the shore, and the Point of Arches rock formations stand at its southern end. The sense of wilderness is strong.

Getting there

The trailhead is near Neah Bay, on the Makah Reservation, about four to five hours' drive from Seattle. The trail through forest and mud takes about an hour to reach the beach.

Good to know

A Makah Recreation Pass is required to park and access the trail. Overnight camping requires an Olympic National Park wilderness permit. Check tide tables carefully, as some parts of the beach can only be crossed at low tide.

Travel gentlyCoastal conditions, access rules and facilities can change. Check current local guidance before setting out, respect protected areas and take all litter with you.
