Plan an Australia Beach Trip

Australia’s coastline is vast, and these beach guides span very different regions. Choose a compact region for a shorter trip or build a longer route around travel time; distances between destinations can be substantial.

Choose a region before choosing a beach

Bondi and the nearby Sydney coast offer a very different trip from Whitehaven in the Whitsundays, Wineglass Bay in Tasmania, or the beaches of Western Australia. Byron Bay and Noosa bring their own coastal-town character. Start with geography and transport, then compare each beach’s setting and activities.

Respect local beach conditions

Beach flags, surf conditions, park access and seasonal hazards vary by location. Check advice from local lifeguards and park authorities on the day, and plan for heat, sun exposure and longer drives. Protected areas may have specific access and conservation rules.
