What creates a distinctive beach

Pink tones, dark volcanic sand, pale limestone and shell-rich shorelines each have different natural origins. Read the individual guides for the specific beach setting, and remember that photographs may make colours appear more vivid than they look in person.

Protect what makes the coast special

Leave natural material where it belongs and follow local protected-area rules. Some unusual beaches are fragile or exposed to strong surf; use signed access routes and respect closures.
